therapy for Couples and Intimate partner~romantic relationships
Sometimes we have to remake our relationship with the same person: acknowledge what hasn’t worked, leave old patterns behind, and learn to know each other in a new way.
Tried couples therapy before?
Maybe you talked and talked, but nothing really changed. Maybe you left feeling blamed, misunderstood, or no closer to knowing what to do differently.
I approach couples therapy differently. I’m interested in what is happening between you—but also in what each of you brings into the relationship from your own history, expectations, fears, and ways of protecting yourself.
We will understand the pattern, and then we will do something about it.
I teach couples specific ways to communicate, listen, take space when needed, repair after conflict, and reconnect. I will give you things to practice between sessions because new understanding matters most when it creates a different experience at home.
When we do something different, we can have a different experience.
My goal is not simply to help you talk about your relationship. It is to help you change the experience of being in it.
What we’ll work on
We may work on communication, recurring arguments, emotional disconnection, resentment, trust, parenting differences, or the feeling that you have become roommates instead of partners.
I’ll help you identify the cycle you keep getting pulled into, understand what is underneath it, and learn how to interrupt it.
I’m also very comfortable talking about sex and intimacy. Sexuality can be one of the most difficult subjects for couples to discuss, and I believe it deserves honesty, curiosity, and compassion rather than embarrassment or avoidance.
Sex, intimacy, and desire
Whether you haven’t had sex in months or years, desire has changed, one partner feels rejected, sex feels like an obligation, or you are afraid that talking about it will start another fight, we can talk about it. It’s my job to help you and your partner re-connect.
I have training in sex therapy and bring an open, nonjudgmental approach to intimacy and relationship dynamics.
Infidelity and other ruptures
An affair or other painful breach of trust can change a relationship overnight. I help couples understand what happened, face the hurt honestly, take responsibility where it belongs, and determine what repair would actually require.
Sometimes couples rebuild together. Sometimes they make the difficult decision to separate. My role is not to decide for you. My role is to help you understand what is happening well enough to make an honest decision—and then move forward.
